From a number one album to a break up with her long-term
boyfriend - Our interviewer, Joy Osborne, met up with Elodie J to tell us more…

2013 was a big year for you! How do you feel your life has
changed?
You’re telling me, emotional rollercoaster more like! It’s changed loads in some respects then none in others. I mean, my music really took off last year, my fanbase has grown and I’m loving every minute of it… but at the same time my mam has helped me remain very grounded. I still love spending time with my family and regular trips to the cinema with my little sister.

Your break-up with your long-term boyfriend, Jamie Pearson,
was well documented in the media near the end of last year. How did you cope
with that?
[Looks down and plays with fingers] In reality I didn’t. It was really difficult. Break-ups are hard for everyone but having stories, many of which weren’t even true, written about it was something I’d never had to deal with before. I made mistakes. I put too much on social media which was immature and resulted in my words being twisted.

Do you regret the image you posted on Twitter?
Of course. I was upset and in a really low place. I’ve learned to put my frustrations into my music. On the plus side this may help me create a great new album!

climbed straight to No1 in October. What did you do to celebrate?
You know what it is, my mum called to tell me before my manager knew! She’s my number 1 fan. I actually don’t have some crazy party story… I went out for a meal with my family, manager and people from the label. It still feels weird to know I have a Number 1 album! It’s an unbelievable feeling.

What are your plans for 2014?
Oo now that would be telling! [Laughs] I was actually told this morning I’m finally allowed to tell you I’m working on a new fashion range for Topshop! I’m so excited, I absolutely love fashion and have had so much fun working on the designs with the amazing team. It’s still pretty new so my first range will be A/W 2014.

What inspired you to take such a different route?
I’m fascinated by fashion. I have a sewing machine at home and I’m always altering things I buy. You’ve probably noticed I love mixing and matching things that shouldn’t work but somehow do – or at least I hope they do!

I still have to decide upon 2 items for 'Elodie J's 5 wardrobe necessities' and I am going to decide upon these by picking items I have readily available at home or at a friends house in order to take the images.
As a result of the construction I now have to take images of the following:
- A ripped up Valentine's Day card. I am going to take this image on my iPhone as the caption on the image will state that 'Elodie J' posted this image on Twitter. Due to this, I want the image to appear as an image which would be posted on Twitter as opposed to taking it with a high quality camera.
- A gold chain. I believe I am going to use the gold chain which my model is wearing in 'outfit one' of my images.
- A beanie hat
- Trainers
